Questions

  1. What do I need to use MacHylafax?
  2. How do I send a fax from my application?
  3. How do I create my own custom cover sheet?
  4. Why is the address book empty?
  5. Does MacHylafax work with El Capitan, Sierra and High Sierra?

Answers

  1. Minimum requirements are Mac OS X 10.4 and access to a HylaFAX server.

  2. Providing that you have already run MacHylafax for the first time, select print from your application. You will notice a 'PDF Menu' option at the bottom of the window. Click this, then select 'Send To MacHylafax'. You can also run MacHylafax in standalone mode (by launching it in the normal way from your finder). In this mode, you will be asked to select a document to fax.

  3. To create your own custom cover sheet, simply use your favourite word processor to make a document.

Make sure that the words 'machylafaxfrom', 'machylafaxto', 'machylafaxdate', 'machylafaxsubject' and 'machylafaxcomments' appear in the text somewhere.

Once you are done, save your document in Rich Text Format (RTF). In MacHylafax, go to your preferences and click 'Cover Pages'. Click '+' and select your RTF file.

  4. It is possible that MacHylafax does not have permission to access your Contacts. Please try the following from Terminal to reset permissions 'tccutil reset AddressBook'. You will be prompted to give permission the next time you launch MacHylafax or any other applications that attempts to access your Contacts.

  5. Due to changes in MacOS, this is not supported. However, we are currently working on a brand new version of MacHylafax which will be fully compatible with El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra and beyond. This will be released during 2018.
